When considering any kitchen renovations, the question on the forefront of my mind is "How much work do I want to put into this?". We still have many things on the "to-do" list, but the kitchen is always on the "#1 fantasy-lets-for-real-get-to-it" list. My two options I'm weighing go a little something like this:

1 - Keep the cabinets as is (someone out there has to like a cherry wood, right?) and replace the sink/counter top (maybe back splash but I have no idea what would match). Something a little like...

The cabinets are pretty close to what I've got. This was more counter top/back splash tile inspiration. This, although not the most awesome thing ever, would be a vast improvement over the counter ops I've got now. I do think I would consider a stainless steel, farmhouse sink with this.

My second option is to just buckle down and go for it. Strap on those painting shoes and get to refinishing the cabinets. I would probably go a little lighter on the counter tops, but I love the back splash in this.

My biggest concern with this is, how much would a buyer care about the cabinetry in the house not being consistent? IE: Kitchen not matching the bathrooms? Personally, I wouldn't care about something like this...but could it be a big issue? (Of course if it came down to it, I could always paint the bathroom cabinets a lovely greige that I've been eyeing and call it a day! :D ) Oh, the options...

Love that top picture! For me personally, it would bother me to not have matching cabinets. But thats my ocd talking :)

See, this is good to know though! I'm curious as to how many people would take that into consideration. Thanks :)

So funny you bring up the kitchen bc that's next on our "$$$ project" list, after the built-ins. I have always drooled over the farmhouse sinks, but I think I'm going to do the white one and then do granite counters with some greys kind of like the colors of what I already have. I agree that having mismatched cabinets from room to room could turn off a buyer, but you have to also consider what kind of buyer you are likely to have. i don't know your area well enough to know what other houses are like and whether the house will continue to go up in value etc so it is hard to say. I also think the kitchen is a HUGE factor in a house's appeal. who could turn down an awesomely redone kitchen, even if the bathroom cabinets are different?

I would never have thought to see if the bathroom cabinets matched the kitchen cabinets! Mine don't match now and I love my painted kitchen cabinets. Now, if the cabinets were all different in the same room it would be a different story.

Lee - I totally agree that the kitchen is a main selling point of the home. And good point about who would want to turn down a redone kitchen, even if it didn't match. Our area is really diverse and a potential buyer could really be anyone.

Maria - I'm right there with you. I would've never thought about it, but had the cabinets been different in the same room, it would've been a turn off. Thus begs the question...if I paint the kitchen cabinets, then should I go ahead and paint the laundry room cabinets as well? They're basically in the same space.
