::Paris, 3

Last post on the trip! This wasn't the last day of the trip, but I didn't really take pictures that day (like London). We wandered around the city that day.

But this day was one of my favorite of the trip. We took a train out to Versailles. I was probably most excited about seeing this over anything else this trip. We took the wrong train at first....whoops. But one quick train back and we were on our way. The train stop was really close to Versailles. As you walk down the street, there are shops and places to eat. And then once you round the corner it's at the end of this massive street. Here's the view from across the street.

This doesn't even have the entire palace in the shot, but you get the idea. And yes...all that somewhat shimmery stuff is gold.

(Inside the gate and a little more up close) - This was the courtyard right out front. The palace was somewhat a big U shape.
 The chapel
 Almost every ceiling there was painted

 Yes - this was a fireplace. Notice the people next to it to give you an idea of size

Opulence, grandiose...it was just incredible. Gold, marble, velvet everywhere. Not an expense was spared.

The beds were covered with curtains to match the wallpaper, so when they were drawn shut it blended right in.

Madame Duberry's quarters. Much simpler.

I believe this was the ballroom back then. They have it setup as a war memorial now.

And of course my favorite from the trip....the hall of mirrors:

No pictures could do it justice.

And then you (eventually) make your way out to the lawn:

It literally stretches for miles. Locals come out to picnic here (can you imagine having that as an option for your Friday night plans...hah!)

We didn't make it out to any of the Trianons cause we had to get back into the city...but it everything there was just breathtaking. If you ever get the chance to visit Paris, absolutely stop here. You won't regret it.
